Album Review
Stars Review by Cher Fan Club
Stars, released in 1975, is Cher's twelfth studio album. This work is distinctive as it comprises entirely of cover songs, including pieces from artists like Jackson Browne and Eric Clapton. Produced by Jimmy Webb, this album represented a new direction for Cher, being her first album post-divorce from Sonny Bono and not featuring his influence. Despite its creative ambition, Stars faced commercial challenges and received mixed reviews, with critics often commenting on the inconsistent delivery of Cher's performances. Notably, Janet Maslin of The Village Voice wrote, "Cher is just no rock and roller. Image, not music, is Cher Bono's main ingredient for both records and TV." Stars has since become a cult classic and is generally considered among Cher's best work.
